Funding and Grants

Funding for the training institute, including travel and accommodations, is being provided by NCHV through a grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Throughout the past year, CHS has conducted a series of technical assistance conference calls on the issue of supportive housing, and has drafted a guidebook on the development of supportive housing. The two-day Supportive Housing training is for organizations interested in or currently developing supportive housing options for homeless veterans. The training will be followed by a site visit to the Academy at the Presidio Supportive Housing Project owned and managed by Swords to Plowshares.

John Blanchard, who served for eight years in the U.S. Navy and is active in veterans' affairs, founded NASA Education in 1999. The latest program of the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization is Project Fresh Start, which prepares displaced, disabled, homeless and other veterans in transition for competitive wage jobs. Future plans for NASA Education include the construction of a campus consisting of housing for homeless veterans in addition to classrooms, an auditorium, physical therapy facility, and offices where caseworkers and medical professionals can meet with veterans.

NASA Education is supported by donations from Blanchard's two for-profit businesses, National Association of System Administrators, Inc. (NASA Inc.), a provider of hardware maintenance and operating system support, and National Association of System Administrators Corp. (NASA Corp.), a developer of case management software, as well as donations of cash, equipment and automobiles from clients and others who wish to help NASA Education in its work.
